Well, folks! For the 3rd year in a row, we successfully completed another Rainsford Retreat! What is a Rainsford Retreat you may ask? Well, it's a few things:
1. It's time for us to reconnect.
Life is crazy! We all get that. From one week to the next, our evenings & weekends are very full. Now that we have Kerr, our evenings look like: dinner, bath time, then bed - it's all a whirlwind most nights. By the time we put Kerr down, we are exhausted. We do our best to talk through our day together & hear each other out. But with the task of being parents & business owners, we need some dedicated time to delve deep & hear one another out. We both look at our business from different perspectives - which is a great thing! But it can also have it's challenges when it comes to making decisions for our company.
SO! We take time to ask each other intentional questions & leave space for listening. It's not easy being a listener! But when we are in a new environment for a few days with little to no distractions, it's easier to look the other person in the eye & take the time to be intentional.
2. It's time for us to look at the bigger picture.
If there is one thing we have learned as business owners, it's that it can be really hard to keep the bigger picture in mind. You are your own boss: you set your business hours, decide what is most important, & steer the success of your company! It's easy to get down on yourself when you see all of the behind the scenes details. So, we ask ourselves the following questions:
- Are we loving & respecting our marriage & babies? (Yes, Scout counts!)
- Are we doing our best to love our clients & give them the best experience they can have?
- Are we still enjoying creating & owning our business?
If any of these questions are a "no", then we have a problem. Thankfully, we came to the conclusion for each of these that we are on the right track. Kerr definitely is keeping us more accountable with setting boundaries & keeping our priorities in line. Before him, we would stay up super late (there are still those nights) to accomplish as much as we could. Now if we did that, we would be half human the next day while trying to love each other, him & our clients. Setting boundaries has made us better parents, business owners, & spouces. Our prayer is that this would spill over into our everyday life.
3. It's time for us to rest.
You may be thinking that all of this sounds like the opposite of rest to you. Most people think of resting by binge watching Netflix or sleeping in on a Saturday. But for us, rest looks like reconnecting, talking about our business, & having time for one another. We are not in our normal routine with chores & tasks surrounding us. We are in the woods where it is quiet. We can hear ourselves think. Lastly, it gave us time away as a family of 4!
My oh my, we are so thankful for this time away as a family! And yes - each picture of our weekend included Kerr or Scout because they are our greatest joy! Thanks for following along & supporting us as we grow dear friends!
Love, The Rainsfords
